Willie Maxwell was born on June 7, 1991 and raised in Paterson, New Jersey.[2][3] Maxwell, born with glaucoma in both eyes, revealed in a 2015 interview that doctors were unable to save his left eye and instead fitted him with an ocular prosthesis.[4] He began taking interest in music in 2013. Initially starting off as only a rapper, he later decided to start singing as well because he "wanted to do something different". He was nicknamed "Fetty" (slang for money) as he was known for making money. "Wap" was added to the end of the name to perform under in tribute.
Hernandez began releasing rap songs in 2014. Over the next three years, he released multiple tracks and videos with titles such as "Scumlife", "Yokai", and "Hellsing Station", drawing attention for his aggressive rapping style and use of anime as music video visuals. Many of his early songs were released by FCK THEM, a music label based in Slovakia.[14] Gathering fame as an internet meme for his rainbow-dyed hair and rainbow-plated grills, he eventually became an associate of fellow New York rapper ZillaKami.[15] They later feuded after Hernandez allegedly stole instrumentals and songs they had made together.[16]

David Alex Villegas (known by his stage name Skinnyfromthe9) is an American rapper and singer from Somerville, New Jersey. He first gained widespread attention after the release of his song "Love Blast" in late 2017. He then signed to L.A. Reid's record label, HITCO, zoogang entertainment in 2018. He released his debut mixtape, It's An Evil World, in November 2018.
Fetty Wap's commercial debut single, titled "Trap Queen", was released in early 2014. He recorded the song in February 2014. However, it did not gain major recognition until mid-November 2014, and since then it has become a platinum record and has over 130 million plays on SoundCloud. In November 2014, Fetty Wap represented by Attorney Navarro W. Gray[8][9][10][11] secured a recording contract with 300 Entertainment, the imprint was founded by Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles, Roger Gold and Todd Moscowitz, as well as a distribution deal with Atlantic Records.[12][13] The song "Trap Queen" is about a woman dealing and cooking crack cocaine.[14][15] His debut mixtape, Fetty Wap: The Mixtape was originally set for release in February 2015 but was delayed because he continued to create new songs.[16] In June 2015, Wap was included in XXL's 2015 Freshman Class.

David Alex Villegas[1] was born in Hialeah, Florida. He is the oldest of seven children. He grew up largely in Somerville, New Jersey, although he and his family moved around frequently. As a child, his father was imprisoned, and his mother became involved with another man. During Villegas' adolescence, his mother and stepfather engaged in scams and identity fraud until his stepfather was eventually caught and spent time in prison. Villegas also spent time living in homeless shelters and hotels as a youth. He began focusing on hip hop as a teenager after his father purchased a mic for him.[2][3] He adopted the stage name, Skinnyfromthe9, because his nickname was "Skinny" and he was from area code 908 (colloquially, "the 9").[4]
Hernandez rose to mainstream fame in late 2017 with the release of his debut single "Gummo", which was certified platinum by the RIAA.[4] In early 2018, Hernandez released his debut mixtape, Day69, which debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200 album chart.[5] He later earned his first top-five entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Fefe", featuring Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz, which peaked at number three on the chart.[6][7] His debut studio album, Dummy Boy, was released on November 27, 2018, after being delayed a week earlier due to his arrest, and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. Hernandez pled guilty to using a 13-year-old child in a sexual performance in 2015. He was arrested in November 2018 on racketeering and firearm charges, among others, for which he is facing a possible life sentence in federal prison.[10]
Skinnyfromthe9 began putting his music on SoundCloud in 2016. In 2017, he released the songs, "Family Rich" featuring Jay Critch[2] and "Count It" featuring Stitches.[5] In late 2017, he released the single, "Love Blast,"[6] which would go on to accumulate more than 3.5 million streams on SoundCloud.[7] In January 2018, Skinny joined Fetty Wap on his "FMF Tour."[2] Later that year, it was announced that he had signed to L.A. Reid's new record label, HITCO & ZOOGANG ENT.
